User mapping testing works on Foundation, not on Server ... ?

Hi all,

Probably just a SP configuration issue, but I've tried everything and it's just not making sense.

I've got a foundation sharepoint server and a full enterprise sharepoint server 2010.

When using the NMSP clients, and testing user mapping, it works on the foundation server but not on the 2010 server.

I've tried everything  (except for the one obvious thing that would fix it but I can't see :-\)

When running a migration, on the foundation server users map across fine, on the enterprise server they don't.

When using the "test user/group mapping" tool from the NMSP client, they resolve on the foundation server, but on the enterprise server I get the dialog

"could not find sharepoint identity from name: DOMAIN\userid

Just to add info -- both those servers sit on the same side of a one-way AD trust, and my clients are on the domain side.  The peoplepicker works fine, I can add domain users to the security of the sites, and I have ensured the registry security key has access granted to the correct groups and don't get the callback error in the peoplepicker.

What is the nmsp client using to access sharepoint for this user name resolution?  Is there any way to trace what it's doing and see where it's falling down?

The next thing I'm going to have to try is running the nmsp client from the other side of the trust, but that'll take a little while to set up, so I'm posting this question in the hope someone has something better.

Thanks!

Ron
